Dr Emma Halmos is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with clinical experience in rural and metropolitan hospitals and private practice. Emma has worked in gastrointestinal research for several years and her achievements have had an impact both in academia and the community.
In 2008, Emma joined the research team at Monash University and completed a PhD investigating the role of a low FODMAP diet in managing symptoms in patients with irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease and patients receiving enteral nutrition and the effects of FODMAPs on gut health. Emma’s work is well recognised and has been published in reputable international medical journals, including being featured on the cover the world’s premier journal in gastroenterology. Emma has presented her work at several international conferences and was awarded the Douglas Piper Young Investigator Award by Australia’s gastroenterological society.
Emma has completed post-doctoral studies at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research where she investigated the treatment of coeliac disease. She continues working in research with Monash University and is currently exploring the role of a low emulsifier diet in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. Alongside Emma’s research work, she has consulted patients with gastrointestinal conditions to keep her knowledge relevant and provide current evidence-based dietary therapy to the community.
